BeeHappy: Smart Beehive Monitoring System
BeeHappy is a solar-powered IoT monitoring system designed to provide beekeepers with real-time visibility into hive conditions and productivity. The device continuously measures hive weight, temperature, and humidity, enabling accurate tracking of honey yield, colony activity, and overall hive health. Engineered for remote and off-grid apiary environments, the system integrates a precision load cell measurement system, environmental sensing, and a low-power embedded architecture to ensure long-term, maintenance-free operation. Data is transmitted via GSM using a Quectel cellular module to the Datacake IoT platform, where it is visualized and analyzed for actionable insights. The firmware is built on a deterministic state machine architecture, optimized for power efficiency and reliability. Intelligent power management, including deep sleep modes and solar MPPT charging, allows the device to operate continuously under constrained energy conditions while maintaining consistent telemetry delivery.
Beyond passive monitoring, BeeHappy provides proactive intelligence through event-based alerts and behavioral insights, enabling timely interventions such as harvest readiness detection and anomaly identification. A single multi-purpose button, implemented using interrupt-driven logic, provides a compact yet powerful user interface for device control, calibration, and diagnostics. The system was designed as a complete edge-to-cloud solution, combining embedded hardware, resilient firmware, and cloud-based analytics to transform traditional beekeeping into a data-driven, precision-managed process.
